Join the Friends of Belfast Botanic Gardens
If you love the Gardens, want to meet new people, learn more about plants and help to protect Northern Ireland’s only botanic garden, then please join us. Horticultural knowledge is not required.
We are a welcoming group united by a passion for protecting and celebrating the Gardens. In October 2025 at the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) ‘Best Kept’ Awards Ceremony, we won the ‘President’s Trophy’ in recognition of a notable contribution to the enhancement of the environment.
🌿 What We Do
- Monthly meet‑ups in the Bothy: sometimes business, sometimes educational, sometimes just social.
- Plant and souvenir sales and fundraising: help us sell plants and souvenirs or buy some plants that you may not find elsewhere. There is a discount on plant purchases for members.

- Campaigning & advocacy: help us protect the Gardens’ unique status.
- Volunteer in the Global Medicine Garden and the new Climate Resilience Garden (on the lower Botanic Upsurge plot) : help with and learn about maintaining these gardens: e.g. weeding, planting, pruning, dividing and propagating plants.
- Special events in the Gardens: volunteer at our stalls at seasonal celebrations.
- Trips & outings: explore other horticultural gems across Northern Ireland and beyond.
